What is the threat?

There is little media coverage of the threat posed by an EMP event, but the US government and military have been increasing their study of it as well as preparing for a possible strike.

However, when you do find media coverage of the threat of an EMP event, it does question why it doesn't receive more attention.

On June 20, 2020, The Hill wrote:

"In March 2020, a panel of China’s military experts threatened to punish U.S. Navy ships for challenging China’s illegal annexation of the South China Sea by making an EMP attack — one of the options they considered least provocative because the crew would be unharmed, but most effective because the ship would be disabled."
